Playing Retro Games in Visual Novels
The game genre in "Retro Game Aliens" is a Visual Novel.
It's a casual and interactive style of storytelling with graphics and sound.
A large part of the gameplay will be spent on mouse clicks to bring up the next scenario text.
However, there are moments in the game where you may need to do something different.
It's the part where you play a video game that exists within the story world.
The game system of "in-game game" follows the style of adventure games that were popular in the 1980s.
The screen is always filled with "situational visuals", "scenario text", and "Candidates for viable actions" .
For example, select "Look Around" in this scene...
to see the directions you can move.
If you select "Search"...
there may be some discoveries that will greatly advance the story.
If you go in either direction, north, east, west, or, south...
a new scene will be waiting for you. The game may be over right after you move, though.
This game system may seem cumbersome and outdated when compared to modern Visual Novels.
But when you experience it as "Part of a Visual Novel with a theme of respect for retro games" your impressions should be quite different.
We will continue to post articles about the content and concept of the game, so please look forward to it!
